So many times we turn on the television and see a commercial for a show or a preview for a new movie that has something to do with ghosts. However, with no disrespect to Hollywood, what we see in the average horror movie about ghostly encounters does not typically occur in our current reality. Ghosts and spirits that we normally encounter are not here to harm us. On the rare occasion that we encounter a spirit that is malicious in nature… well, that’s another matter for another day. Right now, let’s discuss the more commonly dealt with entities in order to alleviate any misperceived ideas and unwarranted fears.
A vast majority of the entities that you are likely to encounter are spirits that are simply passing through or attempting to crossover to the ‘other side’ and are not meaning to scare us or harm us. Quite to the contrary, they need our help. Sometimes, when people leave this world, the spirit is unable to make the journey to the afterlife. Generally, due to the manner of their death, the souls of the departed are trapped between this world and the next. They come to us either for help with unfinished business or for what some would call a ‘guiding light’ to the other side.
There are situations where we are surrounded by spirits that we will more than likely never see. Spirits of departed loved ones sometimes stay bound to this world by the love that they feel for us. There is no unfinished business except for their own desire to see the ones that they love carry on and find a new happiness. These souls will continue on to the other side once we have reached a point in our lives when we ourselves have moved on from the relationship and found a new level of happiness. This doesn’t mean that we have to begin a new relationship or find a new love, though. What our departed loved one is waiting for is the satisfaction that we have recovered from our loss and regained our happiness.
The most commonly accepted form of spirits or ghosts are what we call guardian angels. While there are occasions where a person’s angel is someone related to them (for instance, mine is my older brother who passed on before I was born), generally a guardian angel is simply a wholly good-hearted spirit who is devoted to helping us get past the bumps in the road that our individual lives take us down. These spirits will be with us for our entire lives though they rarely make themselves seen. Therefore, in the rare event that you are gifted with even the smallest glimpse of your guardian angel, cherish that moment and the absolute knowledge that you are never truly alone.
Many times, people become agitated when they find that the spirits around them are interacting and won’t leave. Again, these spirits and ghosts do not mean to harm us or cause distress. They are simply in need of our help or they are trying to guide us in the right direction. The things that they do, such as moving objects, are meant to attract our attention. What we do once our attention has been gained is generally what causes the harm and distress. In most cases, we react adversely to the presence of the supernatural because we don’t understand why they are present. If we take a moment to remember that most of the supernatural entities that we encounter are not inherently evil and invite them to interact instead of running from them, we would find that the smallest effort of help on our part would be enough to help these spirits let go and move on. In the case of those spirits that are trying to help guide us, once we agree to the direction they are showing us, they will generally become quiet until they feel needed again. The best advice that I could give you as readers would be to keep an open mind and an open heart and not to judge them simply because they are difficult to understand.
